Our Story

Niki & Alex - Ambleside, Lake District

Windermelt is our small, family-run home fragrance studio based in Ambleside, in the heart of the Lake District.

It began during a period of change. After the birth of our youngest son, I found myself spending more time at home and began experimenting with small batches of flower-shaped wax melts. What started simply as something creative to make by hand quickly became something friends and family wanted in their own homes.

Alex works as a chef in the Lakes, where flavour is built through balance, layers and contrast. Seasonal fruit, herbs and spices have always shaped the way he approaches food. In 2026, during his time leading the kitchen at BAHA in Bowness-on-Windermere, the restaurant won the Cumbria Tourism Taste of Cumbria - Casual Dining Award.

That same approach gradually found its way into fragrance.

We realised that scent could be built much like flavour. One note bringing freshness, another warmth, acidity or depth. Each element have their own purpose for a well balanced finish.

That idea became Windermelt.

Our Lake District collection begins with real places around us. Mountain forest, lakes, damson orchards, gardens and rain moving through the fells. We take the character of each landscape and translate it into fragrance, building and refining each blend until it feels balanced and true to the place that inspired it.

Everything is made in small batches, with each product carefully poured, finished and packed by hand with love.

At it's heart, Windermelt is about our family, our home and the landscape that surrounds us - seen through two different creative worlds: craft and food, brought together through fragrance.

We hope what began in our home brings a little of the Lakes into yours.
